VU → solo: same flat affect and guitar economy, from Warhol-era art-rock to Transformer/Berlin-scale authorship.

Born 1942, Brooklyn. Co-leads The Velvet Underground with Cale (then without): Banana album, White Light/White Heat, Loaded. Leaves 1970. Solo Transformer (1972, Bowie/Ronson) and Berlin (1973) establish a parallel catalog; later Metal Machine Music and New York keep the reportage voice. Hub: VU tenure is the seed citation; solo decades prove the songwriter travels without the band logo.
