Geezer Butler

Hub

Bass + words as one job: low end locks the riff while lyrics name the Sabbath worldview.

Born 1949, Birmingham. In the Ozzy-era four, Butler’s bass doubles and answers Iommi’s riffs; he writes most early lyrics (Paranoid, War Pigs, Black Sabbath). Leaves and returns across 80s–90s lineup churn; reunions keep him on the founding axis with Iommi. Hub value: metal’s early lyric frame sits with the bass chair, not a separate poet.
