Same logo, different lineup
"Classic lineup" usually means a peak album cycle. The longer plot is people moving between names.
A Led Zeppelin shirt freezes four faces and one era. The path there is messier. Jimmy Page arrives from the Yardbirds. John Paul Jones handles arrangement and low end. Robert Plant carries the vocal. John Bonham sets the drum language for a generation of hard rock.
That cast has a peak window. Later singers, substitutes, and reunions still use the same poster name. Your ears usually notice when the balance changes.
We name lineup versions for casts that unlock a clear album cycle—not every drummer swap. Treat them like seasons: early invents the sound; later milks or mutates it; reunion tours replay the hits.
Then follow people across logos. Ozzy leaves Sabbath; both sides keep recording. Dave Grohl leaves Nirvana and builds Foo Fighters. Noel and Liam turn Oasis into a public feud brand.
If two bands feel related, check shared members. Rock genealogy is often literal personnel overlap.
