Born 1964. In RATM, riffs sit in Drop D hard-rock shapes while leads imitate turntable scratches via Whammy, kill switch, and toggle. Evil Empire / Battle of Los Angeles era is the citation peak. After RATM pause, Audioslave (2001–07) with Cornell keeps the guitar method in radio hard rock. Hub: technique travels across logos; politics and singers change around the pedalboard.
