Hub

Writer–player–producer in one: fingerstyle lead and narrative verse define Dire Straits across pub-rock to Brothers in Arms scale.

Born 1949. Forms Dire Straits 1977 with David Knopfler, Illsley, Withers. Debut (1978) and Sultans of Swing cite clean Fender tone and Dorian lead lines over a tight pocket—no fuzz wall. Making Movies (1980) and Brothers in Arms (1985) scale the same craft to MTV/stadium. After 1995 band rest, solo and soundtrack work continue the fingerstyle method. Hub value: one guitar grammar carries the logo; lineup and production change around it.
