Formed 1996 (earlier name Xero). Hybrid Theory and Meteora fused DJ/sample beds, downtuned guitars, Shinoda’s rap verses, Bennington’s melodic chorus. In the End (2000) is the structural template taught to a decade of bands. Later catalogs add electronic and concept-album turns; the chronicle weight is how 2000–03 rock radio sounded in malls and MTV.
