Hub

Band face and studio author: Pet Sounds (1966) reframes pop production while he steps back from touring.

Born 1942, Hawthorne. Writes early Beach Boys surf/car hits, then Pet Sounds with the Wrecking Crew—modular bass, stacked vocals, found percussion. Stops full touring mid-60s to live in the studio; Smile sessions stall, later revisited. Hub: production method is the chronicle object as much as the band logo. Late solo Smile (2004) closes the unfinished 60s file.
