Formed 1990. A Northern Soul and early EPs built space-rock length; Urban Hymns after a breakup/reunion delivered the chart peak with Nick McCabe’s guitar wash and orchestral samples. Bitter Sweet Symphony (1997) is the essential track (and rights-dispute case study). They close Britpop’s commercial arc with melancholic, mid-tempo maximalism.
