Soft shoegaze beside MBV
Slowdive sit as the melodic, vocal-forward shoegaze counterweight to My Bloody Valentine’s abrasive Loveless wall. Souvlaki (1993, Creation) uses delay / reverb 延音 stacks with Halstead / Goswell whisper vocals. Alison is the gentle entry; When the Sun Hits shows full volume swell. Mid-tempo, song-shaped shoegaze rather than noise assault alone.

Classic five through Pygmalion
1989–1995 core: Halstead, Goswell, Chaplin, Scott, Savill—dual vocalist / guitarists with Chaplin on bass. Souvlaki sessions include Brian Eno co-writing input on select tracks. Pygmalion (1995) shifts toward drum machines and ambient loops before the 1995 breakup. 2014 reunion restores Halstead / Goswell with a new rhythm section; Sugar for the Pill (2017) updates the blur writing.
