Alice in Chains

Grunge/metal border band known for Layne Staley–Jerry Cantrell harmony and Dirt-era riffs.

Formed in Seattle in 1987. Early singles and Facelift brought them onto US rock radio; Dirt (1992) fixed the template—sludgy guitar, close vocal thirds, addiction-era lyrics. Man in the Box (1990) remains the entry point. They sit beside Soundgarden and Pearl Jam on the Seattle map but keep a clearer metal lineage via Cantrell’s riff writing.
